DAILY PROMPT: MID-SEASON REPLACEMENT
For many of us the seasons are changing, bouncing unpredictably between cold and warm. Are you glad to be moving into a new season, or wishing for one more week of the old?

Summer.

I wake to the promise of heat; the kitchen dazzled by morning sun; floorboards cool under bare feet.
The surf sings, now, luring me with the promise of smooth blue-green curves on which to float and dream, or curling waves that will carry me back to sand so fine it squeaks where I walk. In December, gardenias will bloom, fruit shops will smell of mangoes and ripe cherries, cicadas in gum trees will synchronise their Ode to Joy into a raucous pulse that shatters the eardrums – or lifts the spirits because it says Christmas, holidays, watermelon, and icecream.

Take your pick.

What’s not to love about summer? I look forward to it through all the bleakness of winter. To me, it’s freedom.
