DAILY PROMPT: TATTOO….YOU?
by Krista on December 1, 2013
Do you have a tattoo? If so, what’s the story behind your ink? If you don’t have a tattoo, what might you consider getting emblazoned on you skin?

Do I have a tattoo? Yep. A little black gecko on my inside leg just above the ankle (where the skin won’t sag!). And no, I’m not going to post a pic. I’m 70. My legs are also 70.

I got it when I was 60. Rebellion? Possibly. I hadn’t intended to get myself inked. I’d gone in with my daughter, who wanted a tattoo to cover a scar, and the idea popped up fully fledged.

Lizards represent resurrection, among other things, and although I didn’t know that at the time, it was apt. I’d just resigned from my job and left the city to live on the north coast and have a crack at a dream. I was certainly about the business of resurrecting myself.

Do I regret it? Not for a minute. I really don’t care what impression it makes. I did it as statement from me to myself: a reminder of my free spirit, if you like – a poor neglected little entity long bullied into submission by responsibility and other people’s expectations.

So that makes me weird? No surprises there!

  1. I got a lizard tattoo on the outside of my right leg above the ankle when I was 19. My mom was not happy. My grandmother thought it was pretty cool. I got it recolored and a few extra swirly designs added a year ago. Love it even more.

    Love this.
