DAILY PROMPT: BLOGGER OF REPUTE
Do you have a reputation? What is it, and where did it come from? Is it accurate? What do you think about it?

Do I have a reputation? Several, probably, littered like shrivelled corms along the erratic path of my past: all those potential plants that never grew to fruition. Makes you laugh, really.

But these days – no. That’s the thing about being unset jelly: dome-shaped one minute, flat dribble the next. Not much impact in that, is there?

I do have a reputation for making good melting moments – oh, and for writing odes. Fourteen lines of iambic pentameter, perfectly scanned and rhymed (and I mean perfectly: it’s one of my few talents) language as high-flown and purple as you like, content nonsense. Written for family occasions, presented on a scroll beautifully illuminated by my sister. Once upon a time. Overproduction devalues any currency. Haven’t done one for years.

I think of the corms occasionally, but not with any regret. Would I have wanted any of those reputations? As an academic? A business manager? A hypnotherapist? No. As a writer I would have liked, but nature, nurture and the times all conspired against that. What’s more the self-promotion gene passed me by entirely. Whether the writing gene also passed me by, we’ll never know.
