DAILY PROMPT: OBSTACLE COURSE
Think about what you wanted to accomplish last week. Did you? What are the things that hold you back from doing everything you’d like to do?
It wasn’t always like that, of course. Five years’ intimate acquaintance with the motto Quodcumque facitis ex animo operamini shocked me into action. Roughly translated, it means whatever you do, do it with all your might, although at the time it was rammed down our throats as whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord, which any fool can see is complete rubbish since there’s not a Deus in sight. (A request for online translation came up with Whatsoever the making out of breath to lavish care upon. Not quite the same ring to it, is there?)
But be that as it may, it did the job. I scurried around like a veritable beaver, doing those things I ought to do to the point of exhaustion, until one day, in what I can only consider an epiphany, the scales fell from my eyes. All that hard yakka had paid off. My children were now adults, and right there in the same biblical vicinity was another motto ripe for the taking: Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry.
Which brings me to today’s prompt. After deep and ponderous consideration, I’m pretty sure I accomplished that last week.

Reblogged this on helen meikle's scribblefest and commented:
Having found myself alive and well and already on the grid, I was delighted to find also that nothing has changed, so what better course for a sloth than a quick reblog?
Most enjoyable Helen!
Thanks, Barbara. And all true!
