DAILY PROMPT: MAKE ME SMILE
If you’re feeling blah, what is the one thing you do that you can count on to put a smile on your face?

Do you really think I’m such a pushover?

Do you honestly believe that if I’m having a good hippo-wallow in glutinous, suck-me-down, blah mud I’m going to be cajoled into an icky-sweet smile by some snippet of feel-good homespun wisdom straight from heart of Pollyanna? Who, by the way, was not Hayley Mills in a 1960s Disney movie, but a perfectly nauseating child created by Eleanor H Porter in 1913, and used thereafter to beat perfectly unnauseating children about the head for expressing perfectly normal negative emotions (like ‘being forced to eat tripe and onions totally sucks’).

But I digress…

Blah – that general feeling of what the Germans describe as Weltschmerz (so much pithier than strings of vague English words!) – can also be described as having the blues, and we’ve been there before (https://helenmeikle.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/daily-prompt-what-blues-singers-werent-told/).

So I shall now go down to the beach and plunge myself in the thoroughly un-blah waves.
