What’s the best story someone else has recently told you (in person, preferably)? Share it with us, and feel free to embellish — that’s how good stories become great, after all.
Not recent, but definitley embellished.
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey…
A tuffet’s a footstool
And curds and whey (uncool)
Is junket if eaten today.
Along came a spider and sat down beside her.
She didn’t admire what she saw:
The spider was scary
And probably hairy.
She shrieked and lit out for the door.
The spider looked sadly around. ‘That went badly,’
He thought with a pitiful sigh.
‘And really, she’s rude.
I’m no handsome dude,
But at heart I’m a regular guy.’
He sucked up a tear and collected his gear
With the weight of the world on his back,
To sit in the corner
Like Little Jack Horner
And plot a new plan of attack.
And Little Miss Muffet, so prim on her tuffet,
Missed out on the chance of her life:
A smile not a wince
Would have made him a prince –
Quite rich, with a castle in Fife.
For looking quite scary and possibly hairy
Are mere bagatelles, on the whole,
Except to the fools
To whom image and jewels
Are far more important than soul.
