Daily prompt: The folly of not watching your step

Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt

Poor Donny Trump was very bored
As little boys can sometimes be.
He’d had a go at this and that
And broken all the toys that he
Had snatched from other children, so
He looked around and thought Why not?
I’ll run for POTUS for a while
And ginger up the Party pot.

But playing fast and loose with pol-
itics turned out to be quite fun.
The more outrageous he became
The more he managed to outrun
The rest, who by comparison
Paled into insignificance
Until he found that by default
He led the Party’s merry dance.

And what a heady feeling ‘twas!
No boredom now for Donny Trump.
His was the name on every tongue,
The gossip at the village pump.
He puffed his chest out (as you do).
His head grew bigger every day.
I’ve got it in the bag, he thought,
No matter what I do or say.

But pride cometh before a fall
And overreaching is not wise.
May hubris do its job, and – Woops!
A giant misstep there. Surprise!
