About me
I'm a freelance writer - fiction, nonfiction and anything else that happens to tango its way through my mind. That's for me, and I've won a competition or two, and been published in a range of media. To keep the wolf from the door, I also edit, proofread and write for other people. Love it all. Aren't I lucky?

Daily prompt: Bridges I know and love
DAILY PROMPT Bridge This is the bridge over Back Creek. My father and I crossed it more than a time or two when I was a kid, to go fishing here, on back beach. Now my grandchildren jump from high … Continue reading
Daily prompt: Not a wisp or a flicker
DAILY PROMPT Smoke Where there’s smoke there’s fire, so they say. What bollocks. It might have been true once, but these days, smoke machines are two-a-penny. Flick the switch and you can roll out ‘baby joy’, ‘heartbreak’, cheating or mortal … Continue reading
Daily prompt: Old
DAILY PROMPT Ancient Sometimes I am very old, weary to the depths of my soul where time sits silvered with grief and seamed with battle scars that weaken my resolve. But mostly I am very young: a child alight with … Continue reading
Discover challenge: A fool’s paradise
DISCOVER CHALLENGE Radical Authenticity First, I should probably confess that authenticity is one of those words that’s likely to make me roll my eyes. It is, of course, a perfectly good word if left alone to mean what it’s always … Continue reading
Daily prompt: ‘Promising Armageddon’, take…how many?
DAILY PROMPT Promises Nobody’s promising good stuff on the news at the moment. Roll up, roll up, for political, financial and social Armageddon! Weeell… I suppose I could, but I think I’d rather ignore the news. That’s the thing about … Continue reading
Daily prompt: Original
DAILY PROMPT Original ‘Twas way back in the seventies when orange had its day As colour de rigueur, but time moves on it’s fair to say, And just as Agent Orange now says poison, not spray weeder, So orange skin … Continue reading
Daily prompt: Not something I have to worry about
DAILY PROMPT Flattery It is a sad fact of life that I am not flatter fodder. Or maybe not. Sad, I mean. If I became an object of flattery, I might have to learn to simper, and that would be … Continue reading
Daily prompt: A refusal to be careful what I say about American politics
DAILY PROMPT Careful I should be careful what I say, here. I am an alien. An outsider, with no right to comment on American politics. But what happens in America doesn’t stay in America. We – the rest of the … Continue reading
Daily prompt: Lots more, just ask
DAILY PROMPT Realize Tomayto – tomahto, sidewalk – footpath, trunk – boot, cookies – biscuits… Realize – realise. What can I say? I’m not just a grumpy old lady, I’m a grumpy old Australian lady who despite superficial appearances to … Continue reading
