Daily prompt: Diamonds don’t grow on trees

DAILY PROMPT
Tree

Figures regarding the value of the jewellery stolen from Kim Kardashian’s hotel room this week are elastic, to say the least, so I have been conservative in my calculations.

However…

According to 2014 figures on the Aid for Africa website, Ms Kardashian’s stolen trinkets would educate 880 African girls for 16 years each: from elementary school through to the end of College.

Her engagement ring alone would educate 275 of them.

Ironic when you think that roughly 49% of the world’s diamonds come from the same place as the girls whose families can’t afford to educate them.
