DAILY PROMPT
Quote Me
Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?
One of the indisputable facts about jelly (ie jello, not jam) is that its ultimate shape will depend on the mould in which you leave it to set.
One of the downsides – or upsides, take your pick – of having a mind like unset jelly is that the answer to a multitude of questions is depends on the day – ie, what’s the shape of today’s mould? Could be square, could be round, could be dog-shaped. Could be frog-in-a-pond – my daughter-in-law’s specialty for kids’ parties: green jelly in a glass with a chocolate frog suspended in the middle.
This could be because I’m a Gemini – a volatile, fickle butterfly, so they say, but since this makes me ROFL (me??!!) I’m guessing it’s something much more mundane like… I don’t know, you choose.
Anyway, the upshot is that I have lots of quotes I return to again and again – you guessed it, depending on the day.
To everything there is a season
and a time to every purpose under heaven
Ecclesiastes adapted by Pete Seeger
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof
Matthew 6:34
Don’t be a sheep, X. People eat sheep.
(X = insert name as required)
And for today’s favourite:
Thou shalt smile and have a nice day.
It upsets those who have other plans for thee.
“Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” was one of my mother’s most frequent quotes. I think I use it too when I’m channeling mom 🙂
It was one of my dad’s, as well. Hard to grasp when you’re young, I think, and ‘now’ is all that’s important.
Ah! I love “To everything there is a season” Ecclesiastes quote and have written on it before. I also like your jello reference. I think we should aspire to not be jello (as you have confined it with your quote).
It’s very reassuring, isn’t it. And i like the Pete Seeger song as well.
“To everything there..” , there is a similar quote in Hindi , which I quote very frequently specially to procrastinate! And I howled at the last one , wonderful quote “….who have other plans for thee” . Thanks for the laugh 🙂
It was on the ceiling above the chair at my dentist’s – almost made the visit worthwhile!
